29 Aug amazing herbs – coriander
Apparently coriander can act to reduce bad cholesterol or LDL and increase good cholesterol or HDL. It is also used traditionally to treat diabetes, since it can increase the release of insulin in the pancreas, and also acts ‘like insulin’ in the body.
What caught my attention about this herb is that it can help to carry heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, aluminium and mercury out of the body. It binds to these metals or chelates them, and carries them out of the body in the urine. It even crosses the blood brain barrier to coax these heavy metals out of the brain, where they can reside, to cause havoc to your memory and other mental function. This is important if you smoke, but also from the general level of toxicity in the atmosphere, that we consume daily.
Do you like the taste? Apparently, due to genetics, some people find the taste soapy, but I love it! All those high citrus notes, and it is highly refreshing.I add some to a green smoothie every day, and make pesto with it, as you know, which is gorgeous.
The leaves are bursting with magnesium, potassium, calcium, manganese and iron. Delicious!
